I have to thank the Discovery Channel for this article. They were featuring a documentary about sea creatures and I really found dolphins super adorable and endearing. So let's talk about dolphins, shall we?

So what is a dolphin? Contrary to popular belief, a dolphin is not a fish. Yes, in some parts of the world they are eaten (which I think is cruel, considering how cute they are), and may even be delicacies in those parts of the world. The dolphin is actually a mammal. If you've been gone too long enough from school here's a simple analogy - humans are mammals; mammals don't lay eggs; mammals are sexual creatures, meaning to say that in order for them to reproduce, there is a need for a male and a female mammal to mate; dolphins are mammals, okay?

Now that we have settled that one, let's answer another question looming in the air, especially on the minds of science geeks - what is the scientific name for dolphin? It is Delphinida Delphi. Pretty fancy, huh? And that's the scientific name for dolphin.

We all have this romanticized image of dolphins being very friendly, playful and jovial sea creatures, but even them can take the meanest of form. Yes, they do have a mean side - when you hurt their off springs or you mess with one of them. Dolphins have this collective, somewhat family angle on things. Just like the ducks. Ducks fly together, well dolphins do swim together.

Dolphins also possess a variety of capabilities that let them survive the wild, dangerous and ever changing environment under the deep blue water. They possess outstanding vision and impeccable auditory abilities. And aside from that, they are endowed with naturally swift movements, which they are able to take advantage of when they hunt for food or when they escape life-threatening situations.

Recent studies have shown that dolphins are in truth one of the brightest species of the animal kingdom walking (or the more befitting term, swimming) on the surface of the earth. And they may be even more intelligent than the ancient primates and Homo sapiens. This constitutes paramount care and preservation of the life of dolphins.

The coconut tree belongs to the family of palms; collective scientific name for palms is arecaceae. They are comprises of the palmyra, rattan, Walsh river palms, queen palm, Beccariophoenix madagascariensis, roystonea regia, oil palm, Date Palm, Washington robusta, Pritchardia affinis and ever know coconut. The coconut which is considered as the tree of life is considered to be one of the most used plants in the world. From the roots up, every part of the plant is considered valuable and useful. It is cultivated and spread worldwide into the continents and countries. The Philippines is the number one producer of coconuts in the world which they produce more than 19,000,000 tons of coconuts a year. It is also one of the oldest plants that exist in our world. Fossils from different countries in Asia show that coconut has been around for 15 million years now. The scientific name for coconut is cocos nucifera. The term coconut was derived from the Spanish term coco which means a grinning face as it resembles a face from its shell. The coconut is a very useful plant. The roots is used for beverage or a type of medicine to dilute the blood. The trunk is used as lumber, the branches are used to make a broom and the fruit provides a delicious snack and the buko or young coconut juice is good for diluting the blood as well and for urinary track infection. The coconut oil is used cooking or in cosmetics. The coconut bud is used for different dishes and is treated as a vegetable. The coconut husk is used as a fuel and making brushes and the coconut is also used for fuel as well. The coconut is one of the best fruit that God has created to give us multitude of uses. The palm family is ancient and one of the oldest families that generate trees that can be used for food, medicine, industrial, and commercial use.

You see there a lot of possibilities that you go with the coconut. It is a very useful crop and it has lot of benefits for humans and animals. From roots to fruits, there is no waste. This fruit has a lot of potential. Who know what other discoveries will uncover as we go along the way to the future. Anyways it is called the tree of life, the tree of change and the tree of hope.
